Initiated by a family member, the fundraiser set a goal of $75,000, which was easily surpassed by Swift’s twin donations of $50,000 each.
Describing Lopez-Galvan as an exceptional mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, the fundraiser expressed gratitude for continued prayers and explained, “This fund will help provide vital financial support to her family as they process this unthinkable tragedy.
At approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, gunfire erupted near Union Station, concluding the Super Bowl victory rally where thousands of Chiefs fans had gathered. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves attributed the shooting to an argument, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.
Law enforcement reported 22 individuals injured by gunfire, and hospitals treated several others injured during the ensuing rush out of the area. As of Friday morning, two teenagers are in custody, and prosecutors have not yet filed any charges.
Many Kansas City fans had anticipated the potential appearance of Taylor Swift, who is romantically linked to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, at the parade. A significant portion of the attendees hoped to catch a glimpse of Swift. Despite widespread anticipation, Swift, who had watched the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory from the suites on Sunday, chose to fly to Australia for the next leg of her tour instead of returning to Kansas City with the team. Representing the community’s sentiments, Rosina Valdivia expressed, “I think I can speak on behalf of our community: We’re sad, we’re heartbroken, but most of all, we’re angry that her life ended so tragically. According to the Johnson County Post, childhood friend Christina Nuñez emphasized Lopez-Galvan’s central role in the Hispanic community, the Westside neighborhood, and greater Kansas City. Nuñez shared, “She was here to do good, she was a good person. This was senseless. And it’s just so hard to understand. I hope that we can learn from this, but I hate that God took such a beautiful person. It’s going to take a long time for a lot of us to understand and heal from this. It’s just a tragedy.”
